And welcome to another episode of Bakari's cell's podcast. Today we have Zach Beecham.

Now when you read Beecham, it's spelled a little different than you would imagine, but I do have the real Zach Beecham here, one of the best journalists we have out now over at Vox. How you doing today?

Hey, good, how are you doing, Bakari? Are you in your kids room?

I'm in my living room.

My son is home sick today and so we're taping us while he's napping. The timing we did this in advance

we just really got lucky as it turns out. Well I completely understand my kids have

toys everywhere and they have their toys everywhere outside of their toy room.

So I completely understand that.

So look, my show is very unique in that we ask each one of our guests the same first question which is walk us through the

arc of your career. Walk us through each one of your journalistic stops to the work

that you're doing now at Vox? Oh, that is an interesting question.

So, or at least to me anyway, who doesn't like talking about themselves?

But I, you know, I, after I finished college,

I went to grad school to do a master's in international relations and I thought I was going to go be a professor or lawyer and then and the night I was going to take the L-sat I was like wait a second I don't want to do this I want to be a lawyer I don't know what I want to do but it's not be a lawyer and so I skipped the test that I was supposed to take decided to but I really liked reading blogs and wanted to get into the world of blogging.

Got an internship with Andrew Sullivan back at the Daily Beast, the Daily Beast, when those two things were the same organization,

and worked there for a year.

Then I went to Think Progress, which also no longer exists.

I mean, my career is like a, it's like I'm wrecking organizations, right? Like the divorce between Newsweek and the Daily Beast and I think progress no longer exists. But I was there for a few years where I really, that's sort of really where I honed my craft as a journalist until I got hired a fox in 2014 to cover foreign policy primarily.

But I've always had a mixed interest in foreign and domestic policy and seeing where those things interact.
