Summary

Meditation is chaos – it’s ok if you can’t completely quiet your mind. In fact, meditator, poet, and New York Times best-selling author Yung Pueblo says that’s kind of the main point.

In this chat with Fearne, he explains that while meditation isn’t a ‘click your fingers and all your problems go away’ solution, it can have a very powerful effect on how you react to your problems. They also discuss how acknowledging that everything is always changing can help us be more present and appreciate the moment now.

‘Lighter’ by Yung Pueblo is out now, and is a guide to deep healing and self love.

Hello and welcome to Happy Place with me, Fern Cotton. This is the show that

0:05.4

finds ways to help us heal from the past. Today I get to chat to young

0:10.1

Quebleau. I was oblivious to the pattern. I didn't see it until I hit that

0:14.8

breaking point where whenever I would feel sadness or tension or some

0:19.4

anxiety I would have quickly rolled up another joint or you know make sure

0:24.0

that I'm just sort of intoxicated in some manner or another or that I'm

0:28.2

totally externalized where I'm either just like joking with friends or playing

0:32.3

video games or just doing something so that I'm not paying attention to myself.

0:35.9

It wasn't until I hit that breaking point where I was like I realized okay I

0:40.0

got here because I've been working so hard at lying to myself. I didn't want to

0:44.7

admit that I didn't feel good. Young Quebleau is the pen name of meditator, poet,

0:50.4

and New York Times bestselling author Diego Perez. He's previously written

0:55.8

two books inward and then clarity and connection and now he's written lighter

1:01.0

which I just loved because he shares his personal story from growing up in

1:06.4

poverty to drug abuse as an adult, defining ways to lift all that heaviness. I'll

1:13.4

let him explain how he came to find meditation in just a moment but what I

1:18.1

particularly love about his approach is his acknowledgement that meditation

1:22.8

isn't just a one-time click your fingers and all your problems will go away

1:27.6

solution. What it can do though is have a really powerful effect on how we react

1:32.8

to our problems. That's a really interesting distinction that we can get into

1:37.9

a bit in this chat.

1:42.1

At Miss Aides Benz, we're always finding new ways to do things, new ways to
