Today I have something a little different. Another TudorCon talk from TudorCon 2025.

The speaker is Terry Jones, who is a docent at H. Croft Hall in Richmond, Virginia, where we have

TudorCon. If you've ever wished that portraits came with footnotes and gossip, you are in the right

place. Terry's talk, terms of adornment, talks about Tudor and Jacobean jewelry, the stories that are

hidden in plain sight, and the very human reasons that people wore what they wore. So I hope you enjoy it. I think you're going to love it.

So I'm going to just give you an outline of the things that I think will have

brought us appeal for you.

So we're starting with a portrait of King James I first of England, six of Scotland,

and around his neck a collar.

And this is from the order of the garter.

And if you look at portraits in this period, you see all these

so white, black robed men wearing this collar.

And it gives them dignity and gravitas, and they are wearing it because they can because only 24 people in the
