What is your relationship like with time?

And I don't mean, you know, do your hours go quickly or slowly throughout the day?

Do you always feel like you're running out of time?

I don't mean the kind of hustle-bussle of our daily experiences with time, right? I mean on a

largest scale when you consider your future, when you consider a little further out

than even just the next few weeks and months,

what's your relationship with time on a larger scale as it pertains to your own dreams and desires.

The reason I'm asking is because I had this encounter recently,

went out for some sushi, and had a lovely conversation with my waiter, Jose.

And we were talking about all sorts of things,

like Miami, the incredible happy hour specials,

on the sushi rolls.

And then I asked him how long he'd worked at the restaurant.

And he said he was pretty new, but there was something

that he wanted to do.

He wanted to go to school to study a particular type of design, but then he said to me, you know, it's going to take three years, and in three years I'll be 30.

That's what he said, okay? I said, oh, that's interesting, isn't it? You know, because in

his mind, three years, being 30 felt like wildly undesirable, like it felt like a bad idea. It felt as if it could be almost

like a waste or it would be a real slog. And I said, Jose, my dear, in three years you're going to be 30 and you'll either be with your design certification and ability to go out there and create the work and life that you want,

or you'll be 30 without it.

There is no such thing as the right or wrong time. There is just time and what you do with it.
