Summary

“Good girls”, “naughty girls”, women with too tight skirts or too high heels. Women’s sexuality is being scrutinized and judged by forces outside of ourselves no matter what form it takes. Our guest today is Gina Gutierrez who seeks to empower women to stop listening to these outside voices and start listening to our inner eros by tuning in and turning on with audio erotica. We could not be more…excited. TedX speaker with over 1M views, and member of the Forbes Under 30 2020 list, Gina Gutierrez is celebrated for her work focusing on using the imagination to ignite women’s sexuality. With her co-founder Faye Keegan she created the app Dipsea to help women define their desire in an empowered way through audio erotica stories.   In this episode Gina and Jen discuss: The link between sexual fulfillment and the imagination Celebrating selfishness in prioritizing sexual pleasure Uncovering and healing the shame of “feeling different”  How embracing the erotic gives us our power  With Dipsea, Gina is helping provide a framework for how we can safely explore our fantasies and prioritize our own pleasure resulting in us being better lovers, caregivers and friends.  * * * Thank you to our sponsors! That was nothing that was ever suggested to us. In fact, it was kind of the opposite. A lot of us came up feeling like this is not something good girls say, we do not have this conversation.”  - Gina Gutierrez “Maybe you don't have less of an interest in sex than you thought. Maybe you function differently than you thought. And maybe actually products, experiences, and stories that made you feel more comfortable and made your brakes less, 'I don't want that,' stop slamming your brakes so much could make you relax into pleasure." - Gina Gutierrez   Dipsea’s Links Dipsea Website - www.DipseaStories.com Dipsea Facebook - @DipseaStories Dipsea Twitter - @DipseaStories Dipsea Instagram - @DipseaStories Dipsea TikTok - @DipseaStories   Books & Resources Mentioned in This Episode Dipsea Website with Jen’s Link (dipseastories.com/jenhatmaker) Ted Talk by Gina Gutierrez A Billion Wicked Thoughts Dr. Emily Nagoski: Come As You Are Dr. Emily Nagoski - For the Love Podcast Episode Dr. Emily Nagoski: Podcast Audre Lorde reads Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power on YouTube Audre Lorde’s “Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power” Essay Text OMG Yes - The Science of Women's Pleasure Jen’s FTL Enneagram Series   Connect with Jen! You guys, welcome to the show. That was me like looking at my finger and like doing the

0:17.7

fire hot symbol. Because right now we're in a series called For the Love of Sex. We just don't

0:23.3

talk about this enough. We don't parse it out enough. We do sort of a cursory treatment.

0:29.8

Right of sex, just like at the highest level. But I'm like, let's really, let's,

0:33.9

let's dive in here. Let's give this some attention. Let's spend some time on something that really

0:39.5

matters to all of us. And we just don't talk about enough. So this week's episode, we are leaning into

0:47.6

pleasure. And I wanted to get a little bit of a different take on this topic related to sex.

0:53.1

So I don't know what you think of when you hear sexual pleasure. I think a lot of us immediately

0:57.3

go to let's focus on our imaginations or we think we need to consult an instruction manual about

1:03.8

the anatomy and like where's the g spot and what are the techniques and what are the tactics and

1:10.2

you know what are the positions like some mechanical aspects, right of pleasure. But I think there's

1:16.4

some really important stuff to unpack here, particularly for women when it comes to the mind,

1:23.3

body connection and sex. So like if you've ever been at a loss for words, if anybody ever asked you,

1:29.7

what turns you on? Just stick around. Like if you've ever felt maybe even a lack of agency in bed,

1:36.4

because you can't take your out while everything feels like some sort of pre orchestrated dance,

1:41.6

somebody else wrote, just stick around. Or if you've ever just been scared or nervous or embarrassed

1:48.5

to look at what makes you experience desire, I mean, I'm going to say it again, stick around.

1:55.6

So according to a study done by OMG Yes, which is a sex education platform and the Kenzie Institute,

2:02.4

90% of women use their imaginations to get aroused. I mean, that's a pretty decisive percentage.

2:10.4

Our guest today likes to say it this way. She says the brain is the biggest sex organ
