The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine. With perspectives gleaned from traditional Western herbalism, Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine, Alchemy, Medical Astrology, and traditional cultures from around the world, The Plant Path provides unique insights, skills and strategies for the practice of true holistic herbalism. ABOUT SAJAH

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Sajah Popham is the author of Evolutionary Herbalism and the founder of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism, where he trains herbalists in a holistic system of plant medicine that encompasses clinical Western herbalism, medical astrology, Ayurveda, and spagyric alchemy.

His mission is to develop a comprehensive approach that balances the science and spirituality of plant medicine, focusing on using plants to heal and rejuvenate the body, clarify the mind, open the heart, and support the development of the soul. This is only achieved through understanding and working with the chemical, energetic, and spiritual properties of the plants. His teachings embody a heartfelt respect, honor and reverence for the vast intelligence of plants in a way that empowers us to look deeper into the nature of our medicines and ourselves.

He lives on a homestead in the foothills of Mt. Baker Washington with his wife Whitney where he teaches, consults clients, and prepares spagyric herbal medicines.Β

Hey there everybody, Sagea Popham here, founder of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism.

0:29.6

And I want to talk about a critically important kind of perceptual orientation for us as herbalists to maintain that I think is critical for

0:41.0

us to hold in order to have a really a holistic orientation towards our work with plants.

0:48.1

And this is really, I was about to say the concept, but it's really, to me, the truth that we are nature, right?

0:55.6

Our bodies are of nature, and the plants that we work with are of nature too.

1:02.3

And I know that sounds really simplistic, but when we really take into consideration the fact that our whole body, the way our organs and our

1:14.0

systems and our tissues and the whole way that our being is put together is actually a

1:19.9

mirror image of the natural world.

1:23.3

It has a profound influence on how you approach working with a client, how you understand the way an herbal medicine works,

1:32.3

and the healing process that ensues when you incorporate a medicinal plant into someone's body.

1:39.4

And this is really the kind of opposite orientation that we see in a lot of a more conventional

1:47.6

approach to medicine, which is kind of this polarity in the way we see the human being, whereas

1:55.0

in kind of more of our modern conventional approach, we see the body as a machine. We see it on this very mechanistic, scientific,

2:03.6

biochemical level. And, you know, it's like, well, if a part's broken, you just take it out and

2:09.6

replace it with a new one, right? Whereas in the older systems of medicine that have been

2:15.6

practiced all across the world for thousands of years very

2:19.0

successfully was more of this holistic understanding that our being is a microcosm of nature,

2:27.6

a reflection of nature, that our body is of the earth, as of the water, is of the fire,

2:33.9

is of the air, that our body is like a garden,

2:38.0

right? And it's an ecosystem. And this perceptual orientation is really the difference between

2:45.0

looking at a person kind of through the linear mind versus seeing it more through the holistic heart.
