Hello and welcome back to Sociology 101.

Today we're going to be talking about the appeal to mystery, the way our favorite anti-provisionist

apologist likes to refer to it as is flattening it out. This was James White's way

of course appealing to mystery when it comes to the issues with theistic determinism. And I stumbled across this article.

Actually, Stephen Marcy had, we've reblogged some of his stuff before there at Sociology 101.

So he's not new to me. But I had not seen this particular article, at least that I can recall.

If we always joke here about how

wordy I am. I tend to be a little long-winded. I think Stephen may have me beat when it comes to

being wordy, but he's much more scholarly than I am in his approach to his wordiness, but he is

even more wordy than me, I think,

and I can prove it. And I say that tongue in cheek, if Stephen's watching this,

that's just theology geek world. We all are a little wordy. But here's the name of the article,

the hermeneutical implications of Layton Flowers Podcast Against Calvinism with Dr. Roger Olson.

Many of you may remember I had Dr. Olson on quite a while ago, some time ago,

and we talked through this, and this article, Stephen Marcy, he goes through the article in quotes from us

and just pointing out some things.

But as you can see here, this article is really, really long.

And he does a really good job covering a lot of material.

But the area that I really wanted to focus on that he covers that I really appreciated

was the issue of the flattening it out. And this is really the appeal to mystery,

if I can find it again. It's such a long article that it's, I had it, uh, cute up and ready,

but for some reason it went off whenever, uh, there it is. There, you're flattening it out protest,
