Hello and welcome to Sociology 101.

Is C.S. Lewis a Calvinist?

Fast and simple answer, no.

However, when you have a huge amount of respect for somebody in the past,

oftentimes it's the tendency as humans to try to associate yourself with those influential, respectful individuals of the past.

That's one of the reasons you see people try to get the

earliest church fathers to agree with their particular sociology. You try to get people like

A.W. Tozer, C.S. Lewis. These were two men I had great respect for when I was a Calvinist.

And for some reason, I just assumed they were Calvinists because they were smart.

And after all, all Calvinists know anybody who's smart Christian, they have to be a Calvinist.

I mean, the smart ones are Calvinist, right? That's what, that's kind of what we just assumed

when I was a young Calvinist. They have a high view of scripture, and therefore they just have to be a Calvinist. I used to think that way.

And when I learned that both C.S. Lewis and A. W. Tozer actually spoke out against Calvinism.

That was one of the the precipice of leading me into this concept, an idea of examining why in the

world would smart, well-educated Christian leaders not be Calvinist?

Why would they reject this way of thinking when it's so obvious?

I mean, Romans 9 right there.

I mean, it's just so obvious what's wrong with them.

Why are they not willing to accept this?

And so that kind of led me to study these doctrines more intently and purposefully to understand why strong

Christian scholars, who I had a huge amount of respect for, would actually disagree with
