Over the past five years, we've brought you a number of doe cases,

the unsolved murders of victims who remain unidentified and whose cases are doubly unresolved.

Even when those victims are presumed American citizens, their identities can be difficult to trace.

Before the rise of investigative genetic genealogy, the task was often impossible.

But there are unidentified people across the country whose names will be even harder to find.

Because they died as undocumented Americans who had to operate underneath the system,

or died while in the process of immigrating or seeking refuge.
