I have found great peace and relief in the truth that I don't always have to respond.

I don't always have to respond. In fact, knowing that you don't always have to respond to something

might be one of the most underrated acts of self-care that there is. What do I mean by that? Sometimes we feel like we have to

reply to everybody or someone asks us a question or criticizes us or even tries to challenge us.

Silence is available to us. Sometimes we forget that. Sometimes we think we have to respond to every text, every email, every statement

that we receive or even negative comment that comes our way. You don't have to, my friends, in fact, I would say that probably, I mean it's hard to even

give a percentage, but a lot of the times that someone reaches out to me or asks me a question

or gives me some negative feedback or even some positive feedback.

I simply do and say nothing.

Because we don't owe anybody an explanation or an answer or a rebuff even if our

ego will have us believe in that moment that we have to, that we have to show up

that we have to be fully prepared with an answer that we have to show up, that we have to be fully prepared with an answer, that we have to be perfect,

that we have to engage, we don't have to. In fact, I remember having a conversation with a friend over lunch in New York

a few years ago and she was saying

oh my god all these people are reaching out to me and they want to collab and they want to do this and

that and I said oh yeah I just don't I just don't reply to those.

She was like, what? You don't get back to them? We don't

respond to the d.m. to the emails to your, to the requests that people send even if you kind of know them.

I said, yeah, no, no, no, I don't.

I don't even respond to all text messages I receive from people that I love.

We don't always have to respond. It doesn't mean that we're unkind. It doesn't make us irresponsible. It doesn't mean that we don't care.
