On Tuesday, Judge Eileen Cannon denied special counsel Jack Smith's request for a gag order on Donald Trump.

Smith wanted to stop Trump from repeating the deranged conspiracy theory that the FBI was set to use lethal force on Trump when it executed a search warrant at Maralago for the classified documents Trump stole. Cannon denied this while dressing down Smith's team in bizarrely sharp

language. Cannon's latest exercise in favoritism toward Trump, however, comes at a risk to her.

Depending on how things go, it could give Smith more ammunition to seek Cannon's removal from the case.

To game this out, today we're talking with legal scholar Matthew Seligman,

who has done some of the best work roadmapping Trump's legal travails.

He's going to help us understand what's coming next with canon and also explain more broadly

why it's premature to assume Trump won't face any more trials before the election.
