Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is yesterday in Parliament from BBC Radio 4.

On Tuesday, the 14th of April, the government was threatened with a rebellion by Labour MPs

over plans to restrict repeat protests and demonstrations.

Over the next few weeks, MPs and peers will be engaged in the process known as parliamentary ping-pong,

as the government seeks to get new laws onto the statute book ahead of the King's speech next month.

The clerk will now proceed to read the orders of the day.

Crime and policing bill, consideration of Lords amendments.

The government suffered a string of defeats when the legislation was considered in the Lords.

Now the Home Office Minister, Sarah Jones, wanted MPs to reject or rewrite many of the changes

to what she said was the largest criminal justice bill in a generation.

This bill will support the government's mission to halve knife crime and violence against women and girls in a decade

and give our police and law enforcement agencies the tools they need to tackle anti-social behaviour,

sexual violence, terrorism and online harms.

Last week, the government announced that it would introduce its own changes to the bill

to ban online pornography featuring family members and step relations

in the face of a possible rebellion by MPs and peers.

And the Minister said she was proposing further changes to hold the bosses of tech firms responsible

if their websites and platforms failed to remove intimate images of people that had been shared

without their consent.
