On Tuesday the 8th of July, there were calls for speedier compensation for the victims of the post office scandal.

Before the Commons gathered, the veteran conservative, Sir David Davis, had spoken to Janet Skinner, one of the wrongly convicted.

She'd spent nine months in jail and 18 years since battling for compensation.

In her own words, the compensation process has been, and I quote,

harder than anything I've ever had to do before and I've been to prison.

Janet was just one of those caught up in the post office scandal after the faulty horizon IT system

said sub-postmasters had been taking money from their tills.

Yesterday, retired judge Sir Wyn Williams published the first part of his final report,

focusing on the human impact and compensation for victims.

He said that at least 59 people had contemplated suicide

and more than 13 may have killed themselves.

The post office minister, Gareth Thomas, told MPs the government was sympathetic to Sir Wynn's 19 conclusions

and would accept the recommendation to compensate families affected by the scandal.

Sir Wyn rightly recognises that designing a suitable compensation scheme for family members

raises some very difficult issues.

Nonetheless, we want to look after those family members who suffered most,

meeting Sir Wyn's recommendation that we should give,

and I quote, redress to close family members of the most adversely affected by horizon.

The shadow business minister, the Conservative Dame Harriet Baldwin,
