Summary

J repeats his ritual of reflecting on where he’s at what he’s facing as the year comes to a close. He discusses his cat being diagnosed with diabetes, the Dalai Lama's twitter/x account, genetically modified butter, the feeling of not being able to say what you really think, trying to open a yoga center, predictions from the 2016 Yoga in America study, a changing internet, making ends meet, taking stock in the exchanges that make all the difficulties worthwhile, and somehow finding the resilience and fortitude needed to meet life's uncertainty.

All right. Here we are. This is Jay Brown Yoga Talks podcast. My name is Jay Brown. Welcome to you, whoever you are. If this is your first time ever listening to the show today,

0:26.3

it's important to understand that you have come on an unusual day. I believe this might be the

0:33.7

third time in the eight-plus years of doing this show that I'm putting out one of these

0:41.2

solo episodes. That's just me and not including a guest. And if you were here last year at this

0:50.5

exact time, that was the first time I ever did that. And I explained then that this particular

0:57.2

week, the week of Christmas, this is posting on Christmas Day of the year 2023. And like last year,

1:05.8

I've got several awesome episodes already in the can. They're already recorded, and I could easily post

1:12.0

one of them this week. But I always feel crappy about it because every year, for all the eight

1:18.7

years, you can see that this week is the week that gets like the least listens. Because people

1:24.8

got stuff, people got holiday stuff. And, you know, if it's not like a title that is something that you're really into or you're busy, you know, a lot of times episodes slip past.

1:34.8

Not everybody listens to every episode, you know?

1:37.9

And so it's pretty much guaranteed that, like, the guest who gets post the week of Christmas is getting like the short end of the

1:46.3

stick. And I feel bad about that. And last year, what I did was I recorded just me doing a check-in.

1:54.0

And if you're new to the show, that is part of what I do here. I often talk a little bit about

2:00.2

what's going on with me and what I think about

2:02.2

things and just like larger questions around the yoga world. And some people are into that aspect

2:08.8

of the show. Some people tune in for that. Some people aren't, some people fast forward over the

2:13.8

intros just to get to the talks, you know, and just come because they want to listen

2:18.3

to a particular guest. And I'm totally happy for that. So just to know that this week

2:24.6

is just me rambling on about some stuff, and you might be into that and you might not be into that.

2:29.8

And if you're not, you should definitely go back into the archives or come back again next week,

2:34.4

all kinds of great stuff. But if you're not, you should definitely go back into the archives or come back again next week. All kinds of great stuff.
