Hello and welcome to this week's Spun interview. We were so lucky to talk to kidnapping survivor and current LDS member Jan Broberg. She is a valuable advocate for women and children in the church and has used her lifelong healing journey going from being groomed and taken by her next door neighbor as a child to

teaching others how to look for sides of danger in their own communities. She is also an accomplished

actress as well as an author and producer. We learned so much from her. Please enjoy this interview.

Someplace underneath. I'm immersed for the last like two years in LDS culture.

Just trying to understand how that's happening.

And I know that within your story, the main basis of it is not talking about the church world and your community there.

And I would never blame the church for what happened, of course, that your abuser is a predator.

Unfortunately, in places where people are very trusting and very welcoming, sometimes predators can kind of use that to their advantage.

Absolutely.

And so I know that you guys first were around him in the church. You guys met him through that community.

Yeah.

Was the LDS culture part of your daily life growing up?

Yes.

I mean, I lived in a small, a small city of Hokotelo, Idaho right by the university.

Idaho State University was within half a block, you know, the mini dome where all the football

games happened.

It was very much community. My,

my friends all in my neighborhood, most of them I went to church with them, but not all of them.

There was a lot of just religious people in Pocatello. Everybody went to church,

you know, which is not the way it is today. Like I had Methodist friends,
