Hello and welcome to episode 33 of the unauthorized history of the Pacific War podcast.

My name is Seth Paredon, historian and deputy director of the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum here at Camp Shelby.

And with me as always, it's my esteemed co-host, retired Navy captain, Bill Toaddy,

former skipper, the Fast Attack submarine USS, Indianapolis, Commodore, Submarine,

Squadron, 3, and Pearl Harbor, and many other postings.

How are you this fine April morning, Bill?

I'm doing well, Seth. I'm wearing my Navy baseball shirt. And no, that does not mean I was

good enough baseball player to play for the Navy team. Heck, I wasn't even good enough to play for

my varsity high school team. But I got this shirt when I played on an alumni team.

I was the oldest guy on the Naval Academy alumni team by 10 years. And they let me play

until, and let me play third base, frankly, until I tore my rotator cuff throwing from third to

first.

That's the surgery I just had 10 years later.

I had that surgery last September to repair of the rotator cup, and it's doing pretty well, Seth.

Well, that's good. But in honor of this ball season, I'm wearing the shirt.

I, too, was a ball player, but my playing days ended in high school, and I have yet to pick up the gloves since and probably won't ever again.

So it was enjoyable while it, yeah, I did too, until you get tired of it after a while.

The smell of the grass, the smell of the leather glove, you know, just, I just immersed myself. And I was living

I actually hit a home run in San Diego Padres Park, but that's a story for a different day.

Damn. Yeah. I was a hurler. I was a pitcher. So I didn't, didn't get to bat too many times,

but that's besides the point.
