You wouldn't think a forgotten airfield in the hills of northern India would be the place where reality boulds in on itself.

But that's exactly what one young man claims happened to him. Not in some ancient

castle or cursed temple, but in a military cantonment near a crumbling World War II air strip. It was

supposed to be a quiet moment of teenage rebellion, a warm evening, a girl, an old runway with a moat around it, nothing out of the ordinary

until it was. That's when the air grew still. Sound stopped, and something invisible reached out

from the darkness, what followed would change him forever. What do you do when you're trapped in a place where time doesn't move

forward? When your body is locked in place but your mind is racing, trying to make sense of something

They write, Tony, I've never told anyone this.

Not my parents, not my girlfriend, not even the buddies I shared drinks with in the years after.

But it's been sitting in my head for over three decades now, coiled like a wire ready to snap.

Maybe telling it here, we'll finally quiet it down.

It was the winter of 1990, and my father had just been transferred to the town of Rannachet,

nestled up near the foothills.

He was a colonel in the Indian Army, and when they stationed him on Napier Hill,

they gave us a colonial-era bungalow, one of those quiet homes with creaky floors and high ceilings. Right across the road

sat the old Sunder airfield, a forgotten relic from the Second World War. They said it had once

been used by the British to fly cargo into Burma.

Now it was fenced off and technically under maintenance.

But anyone who lived nearby knew it wasn't used for anything except glider drills for cadets.
