| 0:00.0 | Welcome, everyone to the score fantasy football podcast. |
| 0:16.6 | I'm your host Justin Boone. |
| 0:18.0 | Appreciate you joining us for the next installment here of our season preview series. |
| 0:22.0 | We've gone over quarterbacks with Rich Rebar, running backs with Ian Hartets. Now we're on to receivers with our guest today. |
| 0:28.9 | J.J. Zacharisen, a late round QB and the late round podcast, of course. And he's on Twitter slash X at late round QB. |
| 0:37.3 | And I think he's been with us every year since we started doing the show like five or six seasons ago. So we really appreciate that. And JJ, welcome back to the show, man. How the heck are you, buddy? What's good? Thanks for having me, man. It's great to talk to you as always. I'm excited. It should be a good show. All right. Well, we kind of have our work |
| 0:54.4 | cut out for us today because I've given you the deepest position to preview. Lots of receivers worth talking about. I've got my cold brew coffee here. We're going to try to get through this as quick as possible. JJ, one of the best at being concise when he's conveying information. I have faith in him, I'm going to try to do my best here to not be too long-winded. |
| 1:12.1 | But let's start like we always do with these preview shows. I just want to get your general thoughts on receivers this season. And if you can do it without naming too many specific players, that's probably ideal because we're going to talk a lot of, about a lot of them as we go here. But what's your general strategy for wide oats in 2023? How you approaching them in |
| 1:27.9 | drafts? Yeah, look, I would say that my approach is pretty similar to most seasons. Uh, you know, |
| 1:33.0 | I, I've seen the narratives out there. We've all talked about it at one point in time on shows and |
| 1:38.2 | such about how this is such a wide receiver heavy season and people are drafting wide receiver so |
| 1:42.2 | much earlier than usual. It's not that much of an outlier. Like we've seen seasons like this in the past where, you know, it's kind of a down year running back or people might be a little bit more afraid of running back. And then wide receivers sort of scoot up into that second and first round a little bit more frequently. But if you look year over year at multiple ADP sources. So, you know, forget sort of like best ball drafts or whatever where you're seeing this like insane wide receiver heavy builds, just a regular redraft league, season long leagues. If you look at ADP sources, you're looking at maybe one more wide receiver in the first round and one more wide receiver in the second round versus what we saw last year. So it's not that dramatically different. But typically in my drafts, this is the way that I've been for years now. I'm approaching with |
| 2:21.9 | a hero RB type build. So I'm getting one running back in one of the first two rounds, which means |
| 2:27.4 | a lot of the early rounds are then dedicated to the wide receiver position. Obviously, you know, |
| 2:31.5 | scoring and lineup requirements change that a little bit. You know, |
| 2:35.7 | if you're only starting one wide receiver in your league, then there's no need to go wide receiver |
| 2:39.8 | heavy. But if you're in a pretty standard league, especially one that starting three wide |
| 2:43.2 | receivers, half or full PPR, maybe a flex spot, I'm going to go pretty wide receiver heavy, |
| 2:49.2 | pound that position until like round six or round seven and then start to think about my RB2 spots. Yeah, it sounds like a lot of us are approaching it with the, the hero RB in mind. I think that's what Hartett said in the last episode. That's kind of what I've been doing for a few years now. I don't go in with any like specific plan, like not like hardcore detailed, but normally I come away with at least one, |
| 3:09.1 | probably two receivers in the first three rounds. And then I find that there's a lot of value |
| 3:13.8 | like sprinkled throughout drafts this year. Like rounds three to five, it's kind of the biggest |
| 3:18.1 | group that I like to pick from. But when you're looking at ADP, I could pinpoint. I'm pretty |
