We start this episode in Japan, where President Donald Trump has just arrived ahead of his meeting with Prime Minister Sanai Takaiichi tomorrow,

the first female to hold that role.

It's the second stop on Trump's three-leg Asia tour, and he's expected to highlight Japan's

commitment to invest $550 billion in U.S. industries.

It follows a possible breakthrough in trade negotiations between the U.S. and China, after

positive talks between the two powers in Malaysia led to a framework agreement, averting a potentially

disastrous 157% tariff on Chinese goods.

Details on the deal are scarce right now, although it's expected to involve agreements

on rare earth minerals, soybeans and fentanyl.

And Trump sounded positive about his upcoming meeting with China's leader Xi Jinping,

which is set for Thursday.

We have China coming and it's going to be very interesting. I have a lot of respect for

President Xi and I think we're going to come away with the deal.

The president also said he'd, quote, love to see North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un, though

there are no plans at the moment

for a meeting.

Another week begins with no signs of the government shutdown ending.

Many federal workers have now officially missed a paycheck and more than one million are

going unpaid, while funding is dwindling for a critical food assistance program which will see roughly

42 million Americans losing food stamps next month.

And air traffic control staffing issues spiked over the weekend, leading to major delays
