I'm your host Tim Graal and I am a struggling writer trying to figure out how to tell a story that works.

0:14.8

Joining me shortly as Sean Coyne. He is the creator of Story Grid, the author of the book Story Grid,

0:20.1

and an editor with over 25 years experience.

0:23.6

In this episode, I get pretty up in my head about this whole world building thing with my current manuscript

0:31.6

and holes I'm finding and issues I'm running into.

0:35.6

And Sean helps me kind of talk through how to use this and

0:40.2

how to get through this problem especially using this Heroes Journey 2.0 framework that he has

0:46.2

developed so it was a really useful episode for me helped me calm down and know what to do next so

0:52.8

hopefully you'll enjoy it too.

0:55.0

So let's jump in and get started.

1:00.6

So Sean, I am probably about a week away from finishing up the first draft of my novel, which is cool. I'm on like, I don't know, like 105 days in a row of writing,

1:16.1

which is probably, it's got to be the longest I've ever written consistently. So that's cool.

1:22.9

But towards the end, I've like, so as I've written, anytime there's something I've got to like go back and fix, or something I realize like, okay, I got to put this in earlier or like I don't have a name for this thing or these people yet. So I've just put put in brackets like there's lots of like bracket

1:46.3

whatever I'm calling them or whoever they are and and then but the further I've gotten into

1:53.8

it it's like I get more and more brackets. And so I'm pretty close to ending it.

2:04.6

But I'm starting to feel like I need to go back and actually fix a bunch of things before I submit it to you.

2:14.1

But we had kind of talked about that and you're like, it might be worth you taking a look

2:18.5

before I go back to fix anything. And I always feel like I always get stuck in these places where

2:23.9

like, I don't want to go back and fix a bunch of shit you're going to read and be like, yeah,

2:30.0

we need to get rid of all of that, you know. So I'm kind of struggling with like, do you, like, when should I send it over to you to look at the story and like the story's good?

2:42.8

Now go clean this up or like, oh, we got to fix this part.
