Thanks for listening, and I you refer to the fact that the World Cup was a unifying event for the French people.

For those of us, including myself, not so familiar with our late 90s French history,

can you tell us a little bit more about the backdrop of the tournament, socially speaking,

and why you felt it was important to note this?

Well, this was something that was very distinctly in the ether in the late 90s in France.

Well, from the mid-90s on, France has a fascinating history with multiculturalism,

and I'm not an expert on French multicultural sociology,

but there is a kind of distinct difference in the public discourse in France and there is in

England in terms of identity and Frenchness and the way that was approached and in 1995 this

took a pretty dark turn when the National Front, the Front National in France, led by Jean-Marie Le Pen,

who is Marine Le Pen's father, won 15% in the first round of a presidential election. So the way

French elections work is you have loads of candidates and they run off against
