I know what makes more sense to me, and I'm going with

Iberian Peninsula hating aliens, aliens who want to reclaim the peninsula in the name of the

Moors. That's what I think. To be fair, rare atmospheric event, which is all only one has said so

far, is a bit of a half-assed kind of cover explanation. Rare atmospheric event. We can't say more, but that's what happened.
