Mabbs and looking back on it now, a thank God that worked out the way it did moment.

As fast forward or rewinding just a little bit more. Around July 4th of 2015, the Mavericks were in a bit of a, I don't know,

they were kind of just themselves treading water.

You know what I mean?

Dirk was in his early, or mid-30s, not looking great.

Every off-season was just reshuffling the deck of random veterans that you could afford to get that were willing to come to Dallas and you just try to make the playoffs and just try to do something with Dirk's waning years.

You were, you know, convincing yourself that Darren Collison and O.J. Mayo and Dallumbert and all these guys would make a difference. He had already struck out on Darren Williams and Dwight Howard. You know, you were waiting up at midnight to see if you could vie for the services of Mike Conley or Hassan Whiteside.

Marchine Gortat was always rumored to be coming here.

This was a, this was square in the keep the powder dry era of the maps.

You know, the big one is always, of course, them passing on Janus because they wanted to move down in the draft to get an extra 500 grand to be able to sign Dwight Howard.

Yeah.

Sound reasoning.

They were just convinced that they were going to be able to sign a free agent.

And they whiffed year after year after year.

But then they got Chandler Parsons in here.

They did get Chandler Parsons away from the Houston Rockets who was on a restricted deal,

which whatever you want to say about Chandler Parsons as a Maverick, I'll buy it.

It got even worse when he left because he was a at best decent Maverick and he became a terrible grizzly.

But when he was on the Houston Rockets, he was a good player.

Did he deserve the contract that he ended up getting?

Probably not.
