So in the good news category, H-I-S-D with the corruption, the bloated bureaucracy.

We knew things were bad, but you didn't know how bad because you needed the information

to get there.

Well, the new board, if you were wondering if they're going to do anything, the new board

just voted to cut $30 million from the central office of the Houston Independent School

District.

These aren't teachers.

This is the bloated budget of friends and family of the highly connected individuals

whose names you already know.

And if you dig in, you will find that the same people causing the problems at the city,

the county, in Congress, those same people have relatives placed very carefully in other

government offices.

The new superintendent, Mike Miles, deserves a pat on the back, announcing that he is eliminating

500 positions from the district's central office, along with 40 from HR alone.

He says, more departments will see cuts in the coming weeks, saying, quote, reorganizations

are hard.

There are real people behind the numbers.

We want to make sure that we do this in a way that is respectful, but also in enough time

for people to apply for other jobs.

HISD had about 3600 staff members classified as part of, quote, professional support or

central administration last school year.
