Hello and welcome to Women of Balls, where I, Katie Balls, speak to today's

trailblazers.

My guest today was born and educated in Suffolk and later studied law at the University of Leeds

before receiving a master's in international public law from the University of Nottingham.

She describes herself as a keen environmentalist and has also

campaigned on a number of other social issues. She has been active in Liberal Democrat politics

for well over a decade and was first elected to Parliament in 2019 as the MP for St. Albans.

In 2020, she was appointed as the deputy leader of the party and is seen as one to watch.

She has also served as a spokesperson for a number of portfolios and is currently the Treasury

spokesperson with a budget expected later this month.

Re-elected this year, she came to national prominence when she represented the Liberal

Democrats in two of the general election debates.

My guest today is Daisy Cooper.

Daisy, thank you for coming to The Spectator today. We usually start by asking you to describe your childhood. Oh, well, I think I was born a campaigner. So as a little girl,

I would collect conkers in Suffolk and I would plant them and I would grow trees and I would try and persuade holiday makers from London.

They would have to buy my trees and plant them or they'd be responsible for killing the planet.

And then I guess after that I got very passionate about saving the elephants.
