Summary

Today we discuss Bishop Barron's new book, titled Letter to a Suffering Church: A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis.

In light of this current crisis, many Catholics are understandably asking, “Why should I stay? Why not abandon this sinking ship before it drags me or my children under?"

This book explains why this is not the time to leave, but the time to stay and fight. Reading the current crisis through the lenses of Scripture and Church history, Bishop Barron shows that we have faced such egregious scandals before; that the spiritual treasures of the Church were preserved by holy men and women who recommitted themselves to fighting evil; and that there is a clear path forward for us today.

Thanks to generous donors, you can claim a free copy of the print book (you just cover shipping handling) and place bulk orders of 20+ copies for just $1 per copy (with free shipping.)

Well, it was lovely. They offered this award. They give every year and they invited me.

And I like the opportunity to come back to Chicago to see my family and I was honored to get this award.

1:03.6

I also was eager, as you say, to speak to the students there about my own experience.

In fact, I had, as I began my speech, I had the freshmen stand up. And they were all,

1:14.0

they're way in the back of the room. They have a very hierarchically arranged. But I said,

1:17.9

could all the freshmen stand? And I said, when I was exactly your age in this very building,

1:22.0

that's when my whole life changed. So I just wanted them to get that sense of how dramatic

1:28.3

grace can be in our lives. So it was a great joy to go back. And my mother,

who's assisted living now and it's difficult for her to get around. But she,

Fenwick is only a few minutes from where she's living now. And she came to it, which was lovely.

You should have just targeted one of the young freshmen, like Bishop Spalding did,

Fulton Sheen, and say, just as I am one day, you will be two. You're going to be the next Bishop,
