Summary

In this week’s episode Bishop Barron discusses an intrinsic aspect of evangelization; community. Not only is there an intrinsic need of mankind to have a community, which the Church teaches is part of man’s nature, but also the need to have a certain kind of community within the Christian life. A listener asks how we ought to distinguish between authentic conscience and what CS Lewis called "the poison of subjectivism"?

0:14.6

Bishop, it's good to be with you again. Hey, Jared. Always good to hear your voice. I

0:18.3

can see it. We're doing Skype here so I can see you too on the screen. So yeah, it's

0:22.2

amazing. The modern technology and all your kids are doing well. They're doing well.

0:26.7

Yeah, still growing like weeds and the boys are doing well and a little anesthesia is growing

0:31.6

like a weed. So it's good. Little anesthesia, who's what about? She's not six months yet.

0:35.9

Not yet. Now she turns five months here soon. So yeah. So listen, I know you've been doing

0:41.9

a lot of traveling here lately and actually two of the recent ones are you able to go to

0:46.6

Philadelphia and Denver for two lectures. Maybe you can fill us in on the topics and what

0:52.2

all you spoke about. Yeah, they were both were good. Though I had a difficult time getting

0:56.4

two Denver, but that's just because the airlines. But I went to Philly and I gave the Cardinal

1:02.7

Foley lecture, named for the famous Cardinal John Foley, who for many years was director

1:07.5

of communications at the Vatican. And I talked really about Word on Fire there. So a lot of

1:11.8

things we've been talking about you and I, how it developed and I sort of called lessons

1:17.2

from the Word on Fire story. And it was really designed for the seminarians there who might

1:22.9

be interested in doing this kind of work. And then in Denver, I gave a more reflective sort

1:28.0

of talk. It was on relativism. So the Archbishop there, Archbishop Aquila asked me to speak on

1:33.5

that topic. And I went into some of the genealogy of relativism where it comes from intellectually

1:40.4

and then why it's a danger and then how we can engage it. So that was to a very enthusiastic

1:45.3

crowd at a big parish outside of Denver. And both of those were, you know, what do they call

1:50.6

it, live stream. They were broadcast simultaneously. So that was a good thing.
