Summary

Religion is as dangerous as irreligion because both neglect the proper treatment of God’s Word and thus neglect the relationship offered by Jesus to us. The whole Bible points to a relationship with Jesus, not religious activity. RELIGION IS ROOTED IN MAN’S ATTEMPTED EFFORT TO REACH GOD. Relationship is rooted in God’s accomplished effort to redeem man.

0:08.2	baptism that we had this past June. Hey, if we hadn't met yet, my name is Ryan Stone. I'm one of the

0:32.8	about you guys all morning. If you don't know, we are one church in many locations, meaning that we meet all over
0:38.9	town. And it is a lot of fun to be a part of a church that is right now worshiping here and an old
0:45.7	sneakers. And we're just worshiping across town. And the rumor is that more may be coming. And so
0:50.0	get ready as God continues to bless us. If you've been here a while and you're thinking,
0:54.8	God, this guy looks like one of our old pastors we used to have. I am. I'm just 70 pounds lighter.
0:59.4	Like I've lost all my children's weight, right? And I have, I've literally lost the weight of my
1:06.2	kids combined. So I used to be Ryan Stone and now I am. So hey, we're in the middle of a series
1:11.9	called again and we're studying the book of judges. And the book of judges is one of my favorite
1:16.6	books in the whole Bible because it's just this beautiful kind of combination of like
1:20.8	brutality and then the relentless love of God. So it's like a, I think it's like a man's man's
1:26.7	book, right? And so I love it.
1:28.4	We've been digging into it. If you remember, if you were here in week one, Pastor Joby
1:31.9	taught us about this cycle of the Israel goes through throughout the book of judges where they're
1:38.1	surrendering to God, they're worshiping, and they begin to kind of rely on themselves, and then they move over to some type of idolatry,
1:45.2	and then they feel the pain of their sin, and then they come back and they surrender, and they go,
1:50.1	God, would you save us? And really, this is actually a more descriptive picture of the book of judges.
