Summary

As Andy Murray overcame Ivo The Giant, another giant (our presenter David Law) was also brought down to earth - by food poisoning. That left Catherine Whitaker and Telegraph Tennis Correspondent Simon Briggs to look back on Manic Monday, with all of the last 16 matches completed. Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson will have to come back tomorrow after levelling at two sets all, Tomas Berdych crashed out, and Serena overcame Venus in straightforward fashion. And there’s yet more Nick Kyrgios discussion … The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with the Telegraph, and supported by BNP Paribas, the bank for a changing world.

Hi I'm Layton Huett and you are listening to the tennis podcast.

0:12.6

Well hello and welcome to the tennis podcast it's week two of Wimbledon it is Manic Monday

0:18.5

and it's a particularly Manic Monday for my co-presenter David Law because he has come down with

0:23.5

suspected food poisoning. I was going to insert some kind of joke here about him being lazy but it

0:28.7

does sound like he's in rather a bad way when tall guys go down it takes quite a lot to take

0:33.6

them down so we wish David all the best and sadly for the listeners he'll stuck with well not

0:38.8

just me luckily I am joined by Simon Breaks tennis correspondent for the Daily Telegraph Simon

0:44.0

thank you for saving the listeners for my catch and wish come on along today.

0:47.6

Well anything to help David out you know he's the issue of tall men being difficult to to bring

0:55.6

down it's quite relevant today isn't it with the car of it's match and without deliberate

0:58.6

reference or is that just actually it wasn't deliberate but let's start there because my first

1:02.5

question to you was going to be what would it take today because it's been a day of no real

1:08.5

major upsets what would it take today for Murray not to be the main story in the telegraph but as

1:14.0

as I was planning that intro Jockovich has got himself into a little bit of trouble against Kevin

1:18.7

Anderson hasn't he now we're recording this before the end of that match but you've been out

1:22.3

there watching it I think talk me through what an earth is going on with novaj Jockovich because

1:25.6

he's a set down to Kevin Anderson a man that is very consistent very very decent player but is never

1:31.6

really done anything spectacular or out of the ordinary before in his career. Yeah I mean if Anderson

1:37.7

can push through and win this match it would be his standout result novaj's in a funny frame of

1:43.2

mind he's not moving very well I saw him slip on the turf he I think he's the statistic from the

1:48.0

TV so he'd hit one forehand winner and with what 17 games into the match not dictating not looking

1:54.4

comfortable look he's a man who can turn it around with a click of a finger so he's still favor it
