Summary

After a seismic Saturday at Wimbledon, the defending champion and three-time winner, Novak Djokovic was dethroned after a four-set defeat against Sam Querrey of the United States.

Four Grand Slam tournaments in a row and two legs of the calendar Slam down, to see Djokovic lose in the first week of a major tournament sent shock waves through the tennis world.

The Telegraph's Tennis Correspondent Simon Briggs joined Catherine Whitaker and David Law to wade through it all, discuss the size of the shock, and the possible reasons for it.

Plus, what does this now mean for Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Milos Raonic? Who will end up benefiting most?

Hello and welcome to the tennis podcast on a day six in which we have lost Novak Jokavic. That is

0:26.8

careless, isn't it? Well, perhaps he was a little bit careless. Up against Sam Query, Query

0:32.4

dominated him for two sets as we talked about last night and eventually came through in for today.

0:38.8

What a seismic shock it was. Four grand slam titles in a row, Jokavic should won the first man to do so

0:45.0

since 1969 and Rod Lava, but he will not be winning a fifth. My name is David Law. I'm joined

outside the press room in a dimly lit sky here at Wimbledon by Catherine Whittigat and by Simon

Briggs of the Telegraph. I don't quite know where to start. I'm not really sure what to say about

1:04.0

Novak Jokavic, losing a grand slam match Catherine Whittigat. We just don't know what that's like anymore.

1:09.2

Yeah, it's certainly the biggest shock since I've been coming to Wimbledon. Really?

1:14.4

Yeah, I mean, I'd be reluctant to say sort of the biggest shock in my memory because obviously there

1:20.4

are George Bastel and Pete Sampris, six of my mind, but probably this is right up there.

1:26.6

Sampris was a bit of a fading force by then. Jokavic absolutely at the peak of the game and his powers.

1:32.6

Exactly, and of course there are others, but yeah, this is on a par with, I certainly can't think of

1:37.9

any of the top of my head or haven't been able to match this one. Even as things were overnight,

1:45.3

nobody saw this coming. Apart from Charlie Echolscher, who probably deserves a mention because he

1:49.4

tweeted earlier today, he thought Jokavic still would lose in four, which is exactly what happened.

1:54.7

And at the time, I sort of agreed with him, but it wasn't nearly confident enough about it to

2:01.7

stick my neck on the line. So yeah, well done him. Credit also to Philip Sturd, who on the

podcast last night, who had been court side, sitting court level for the Novak Jokavic match,

reporting for BBC Radio 5 Live, he said, on the podcast last night, last night after it went
