Summary

On a day when Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray made their 2015 Wimbledon bows, the Telegraph’s Chief Sports Feature Writer Oliver Brown joins Tennis Podcast presenters David Law (BBC 5 Live) and Catherine Whitaker (Live At Wimbledon) to talk about it all. Petra Kvitova won in half an hour to start her title defence, but the woman she beat in last year’s final, Eugenie Bouchard, and the third seed Simona Halep, both fell. It was also a fantastic day for British tennis, with Heather Watson saving match points to advance, four British men reaching round two for the first time since 2006,  and Laura Robson playing creditably on her return from an 18 month injury.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with the Telegraph, and supported by BNP Paribas, the bank for a changing world. www.wearetennis.com

Ladies and gentlemen, first of all Catherine Whittaker, how's your day been?

1:00.8

Well once again a bit hot and sweaty but I need to stop saying that because it's going to get boring

1:05.3

because the forecast looks consistently hot and sweaty for the rest of the week. So apart from that,

1:10.8

fabulous. I am absolutely sick of hearing people complain about how hot it is.

1:15.6

It wasn't a complaint, it was a mere factual statement of fact.

1:19.1

Sounded like a complaint to me. Oliver, how is your day being? You've been covering Raffa on the

1:23.8

Dow. I have. He didn't seem to be struggling with the heat bond bits in fact. It seemed to

1:29.6

remind him of being back home in Mallorca. He said there was no comparison to the type of heat

1:35.2

they experience in Australia and when you see that the forecast is for five degrees hotter than

1:40.4

this. It could be uncomfortable for some of the European players. You saw how Murray was getting

1:44.6

flustered in that match when it was 41 degrees on the court. So tomorrow we see if we do see

1:52.2

Wimbledon's version of the Melbourne Extreme heat rule, it could be an interesting factor.

1:58.0

Yeah, we saw some headlines this morning, particularly in the Daily Mail I saw where they were

2:02.3

remarking on the fact that the women's side of things could get interrupted by a heat rule,
