Political forecasting after unprecedented news is a recipe for regret.

More important than what the verdict means for Republicans or capital D Democrats is what it

means for our already fragile, lowercase D democracy.

As historic as Trump's conviction is, the political response, even more extraordinary.

Republican leadership is uniformly calling it an illegitimate witch hunt and blatant political

persecution.

Democrats say justice has been served, and the verdict assign the system works.

Can the Constitution withstand this kind of stress test?

Are our democratic institutions at risk of falling apart?
