Is the United States going to launch military strikes on Venezuela?

It certainly seems so, with the White House assembling what is in President Trump's own words,

the largest armada ever assembled in the history of South America.

In a moment, I will speak with an expert on the region who previously served as Trump's

ambassador to Venezuela.

But first, here's one thing on my mind, a thing that's not Venezuela, I should say.

As regular listeners know, I was just in the Middle East and South Asia over the last

couple weeks, and I was lucky to meet quite a few top regional diplomats on my travels. I'm lingering

over meetings with officials from two rivals, India and Pakistan. In many ways, when people

ask me what surprised me the most in 2025, this is right up there.

I expected the U.S. India relationship to continue going from strength to strength,

partly because they have so many things in common as the world's two biggest democracies,

and partly because they've shared concerns about China.

I was wrong. The Trump administration has turned quite doveish on China, and it's completely blown up the U.S. India relationship

with 50% tariffs its highest global rate. Yes, there are trade talks ongoing right now, but
