I will say since I am from Texas, I'm very familiar with Juneteenth. It is a very big

deal there. It is the day that the last slaves and it was in Texas were informed of a

emancipation. It is part of the great American story of gradual emancipation and becoming

a more perfect union. It is the beginning of what I think can be reasonably described

as the second founding of the country. I don't think that's a woe, but I also think

it's interesting that on the day in which we are learning and remembering about our history

that this takes place amidst this massive campaign not to learn and think about our history.

Speaking of our history, we have to start with one of the strangest flexes of our time.

I think we are used to this sort of thing, but I did not ever think we would start off

a podcast by quoting Bill Barr, Donald Trump's attorney general. And in many ways, one of

the most deplorable and deceptive enablers of Trump's presidency, but in case you missed

it, this is Bill Barr, who is increasingly sounding like he is all out of F's to give.

This is Barr on CBS yesterday describing the character of his former boss.

He will always put his own interests and gratifying his own ego ahead of everything else, including

the country's interests. There's no question about it. This is a perfect example of that.

He's like a nine-year-old kid who's always pushing the glass toward the edge of the table,

defying his parents to stop him from doing it. It's a means of self assertion and exerting

his dominance over other people. And he's a very petty individual who will always put his

interests ahead of the countries, his personal gratification of his ego. But our country can't

be a therapy session for a troubled man like this.
