Article Description

The president dialed into Fox & Friends a few weeks ago to discuss the war in Ukraine. During the conversation, he explained his motivation for trying to broker an end to the conflict: “I want to try and get to heaven, if possible,” he said. “I’m hearing I’m not doing well. I am really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.” But I am focusing today less on the president’s soul and more on yours and mine. We know we are saved by grace, but many of us live by works.

Welcome. I'm narrator Chris Elkins, giving voice to today's daily article written by cultural theologian, Dr. Jim Denison.

This week's elections have been framed by many, especially those critical of President Trump,

0:24.7

as a negative referendum on his second term. Some are even predicting that the Democrats' victories

0:30.3

portend a blue wave in next year's midterms. By contrast, others suggest that Zoran

0:36.6

Mamdani's victory in New York City's mayoral race

0:39.9

is a political gift for Mr. Trump so long as he understands voters' frustrations that led to

0:45.8

Mr. Mamdani's ascension. While I would not offer partisan advice to Mr. Trump as he responds to

0:51.5

these partisan views, I have been reflecting on his approach to a far

0:55.6

more significant election in his future. The president dialed into Fox and Friends a few days ago

1:01.5

to discuss the war in Ukraine. During the conversation, he explained his motivation for trying to

broker an end to the conflict. He said, I want to try and get to heaven, if possible. I'm hearing I'm not doing well. I am really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons. End quote. Proded recently by a reporter to elaborate, Trump said, I'm being a little cute. I don't think there's anything that's going

1:29.0

to get me into heaven. I think I'm not maybe heaven bound. He added, I'm not sure I'm going to be

1:35.3

able to make heaven, but I've made life a lot better for a lot of people, end quote. Mr. Trump's

1:41.6

satirology, which means the doctrine of salvation, needs a significant biblical corrective.

1:47.6

We are saved by grace, not by works, by what Jesus has done, rather than by anything we can do,

1:53.9

declared in Ephesians 2, verse 8 and 9, and Romans 11 verse 6.

1:58.8

If Donald Trump has trusted Christ as His Savior, he is a child of God and has

2:03.5

eternal life now as we read in John 1, verse 12 and John 316. If he has not, he urgently needs to make

2:11.8

this commitment noted in 2 Corinthians 6 verse 2. But I'm focusing today less on the president's soul and more on

2:19.7

yours and mine. My assumption is that you have already trusted in Jesus as your Savior and Lord.

2:25.7

If you have not, I encourage you to read my article, Why Jesus, make the commitment I explain
