Commentary magazine, of course, the 70-odd year-old monthly of intellectual and

else's political providence and cultural criticism from a conservative perspective. We are closing

our September issue in the next couple of days with blockbuster material by our own Abe Greenwald

on the revolutionary nature of the moment in the United States. Peace by art historian Michael

J. Lewis on the statue frenzy. Peace by Wilfred C. Riley on Robin D'Angelo's white fragility.

It will be closed on Thursday. We will try to get stuff up on Friday online. Maybe we will

try to get Abe's piece up early for Thursday. We can talk about it on Thursday's podcast.

But for today, and who knows that we won't be a trump, as you might say, by the news later,

in which case we might discard this one and put up another podcast today to deal with the

emergency news. But I thought we'd just talk about the last remaining political drama of the moment,

which is who Joe Biden will pick as his vice presidential candidate. I was listening to the

538 podcast yesterday. I was fascinated to hear the panelists express liberal podcasts,

obviously, sort of implicitly supportive of Biden's goals and the general goals of liberals everywhere

that the decision by Biden in the March debate with Bernie Sanders to say I'm picking a woman

that they have become over time increasingly uncomfortable with this because it makes this a token

choice. The word token was used and that you get the sense, therefore, that the person who is

being picked is not being picked because she is the best person to be vice president, but because

he is working to fulfill a promise that he is going to have a token woman there and that this
