“Your community is your greatest asset and your content is your greatest marketing tool,” Lindsay says on this solo episode of Dear FoundHer. The first of two episodes in which she shares with listeners what she has emphasized throughout the 72 episodes of the podcast thus far: the importance of building your community. In fact, the more you show up as your authentic self, sharing your personal story and your ‘why’ with your audience, the more they will want to buy what you’re selling.
What’s more, your community will eventually do your marketing for you by spreading the word about your business. Which means that even those with a shoestring budget are wise to start engaging and building one. Here, Lindsay shares five specific steps founders can take to with their community including asking for feedback and offering the community a discount on something.
These steps helped her build her first company Bump Club and Beyond. And even though she sold her first company, Lindsay plans to further her new mission–to help female founders achieve the same success. It took years to grow the first business, but with all of the invaluable lessons she learned along the way, her second business grew within months. And by taking her advice, you can save yourself years of time by starting your business by building your community from the beginning.
Quotes:
• “Being scrappy and utilizing your resources is so imperative when you’re getting a business off the ground. Your community is your number one asset.” (5:46- 5:55 | Lindsay)
• “My community came first, and the monetization came after.” (10:38-10:44 | Lindsay)
• “People want to buy from people.” (11:50-11:52 | Lindsay)
• “In showing up to serve and connect and engage with your community, you build a natural bridge for transaction over time. Whether you’re a brand new entrepreneur, or you have some experience under your belt, creating a community is free.” (11:53-12:09 | Lindsay)
