I've been betting for seven years and working with sports books for three of them.

0:03.3

I've made a lot of mistakes during this time. Here are eight things that I wish I could tell my

0:07.0

20 year old self to help you avoid them. And the first mistake is no tracking equals no money.

0:12.7

And what I mean by this is tracking the amount that you're betting potentially could win,

0:16.2

just tracking your bankroll. It's as simple as what gets measured, gets managed. That's why a lot of people have budgets for their personal expenses.

0:22.6

You know how much you're spending.

0:23.6

And the example on the screen is a simple one, but this is as simple as it has to be.

0:27.6

You can throw the date that you're betting on there if you want to, but the things that you really just need are the risk amount,

0:33.6

how much you are betting, how much you could potentially win.

0:35.6

You're risking 100, 100 for example here to win

0:37.9

90 what type of bet you're doing so you can see at the end of the day where your best bets are and for

0:42.9

this example we're prop betting we're betting in the sport of the NFL so you can see which sport you

0:46.6

are the best at over time did you win or lose you won so you add these two things together your bank

0:51.6

goes from $100 to $190. Another example, very simple.

0:54.7

Now you're risking $50 to win $40. You're betting on an NBA spread here, you lose. So your bankroll was

1:00.6

190, you bet 50? It's now down to 140. And that may seem very simple in theory, just addition

1:06.4

and subtraction, but that's all it has to be. Now you can add in percentages to see which

1:10.3

percentage you're best on for sports and props and what your overall win percentage is, but this right here

1:15.2

will get you going and really it's the basics that you'll need. The second mistake is that you are

1:19.3

relying on trends. And the trends I am talking about are the New England Patriots are 14 and 2 in

1:24.6

their last 16 October games. Patrick Mahomes is 10 and 2 in his last 12 games

1:29.0

when facing a losing team on the road. These trends are fun to hear, but they lack any sort of

...
