If you listen to this podcast, you may be a little bit like me, perhaps not. But perhaps it is the case that you are deemed as a positive or optimistic or upbeat or cheerful person.

And look I'm right there with you. I sometimes joke that if I had an Olympic medal, it would be in optimism. I can absolutely find a silver lining in any situation. I consciously put myself in a place where I feel good every

day. I set my intention for the day every morning to be as positive, those of us who are, it requires some work.

It requires some inner work. We need to come back to our minds, come back to our thoughts, come back to our emotions,

and learn to work with them.

So maybe if you're anything like me, sometimes over the years, you've had some, let's say, feedback about your positivity.

I mean, I remember one time I walked into the kitchen at the corporate job I used to have and one

guy said to me, oh Susie are you always this happy this early?

I'll tell you my friends I wanted to punch him in that moment because I thought

look I don't want to be surrounded by miserable like tired looking faces every day okay?

I want to manage my own mood, manage my own mind, show up with enthusiasm

with purpose. And you know what? That requires more work. Think about it. If you look around

you in any situation on a subway car, in a cafe, in the gym, wherever you find yourself in this moment, most people, they look kind of stressed out, right?

It almost looks like they have the weight of the world, and I get it, and everyone, if I know

anything to be true, it's that we're all going through something at any moment in time, right? People, we go through

challenges, we experience the highs and lows of life. But if you are cultivating this spirit of optimism and you're conscious about it and you're proud of it even too because you know that this is something that you have a certain amount of control over, sometimes it's met with a bit of resistance from other people.

And I have an analogy that my friend Kathy shared with me, Kathy Heller, a little while ago, and I thought I have to share this on the podcast.
