Summary

Welcome to a special episode of the Thinking Fellows with producer Caleb Keith and guest Donovan Riley. Pastor Riley has been on the show twice before to talk about Martin Luther and the Bondage of the Will. This week, he tackles the idea behind the phrase "Here I Stand" and why Lutherans continue in the tradition of Standing firm in the Gospel. Sit back, relax, grab a drink, and enjoy the show.

Hello and welcome to the Thinking Fellows podcast. My name is Caleb Keith, and today you're listening to a special episode of the show. We like to call these Wednesday drops because you guessed it, it's landing on a Wednesday instead of the normal show on Friday. We haven't done one of these in a little while, so I'll kind of explain what's going on.

0:22.0

These episodes are shorter than the typical Thinking Fellows podcast episodes. Usually we go

0:28.0

between 35 to 50 minutes, but on these Wednesday specials, we typically stay between 15 and 20

0:36.4

minutes for the show.

0:42.1

This is either because of time restraints or because we're doing a special topic that doesn't require the full length episode.

0:44.8

Regardless, we try to get content to you if we have a guest that we can record with, but we

0:50.1

don't have a full show in mind.

0:52.1

We still want to get that person on the show, get you guys

0:54.7

as much good theological content as we can every week. What that means this week is that I was

1:02.2

traveling to Valparaiso, Indiana, to run the 1517 table and speak at a breakout for the

1:10.6

Higher Things conference in Valpo.

1:14.8

While I was out there, I thought I would record a couple episodes with Donovan Riley and

1:22.4

George Borghardt, who is the president of Higher Things. So I met with those guys, talked to him, asked about

1:28.8

topics, and we got together to record. The only problem was, is that I didn't have any of

1:35.1

the recording equipment with me. You see, we have one travel set for, you know, mobile

1:42.5

podcasts. And when the summer hit, we were all traveling at once. And so Scott had

1:48.8

the mobile rig while I was in Valpo. And so what I ended up doing was bringing a little hand recorder.

1:54.2

So these episodes are going to sound very different than your typical thinking fellow's podcast.

2:00.5

What we were able to do was find a

2:02.3

somewhat quiet room put the hand recorder on a table in between us and kind of talk at the

2:08.5

at the ground towards a microphone i've tried to in after editing pull the levels up as good as possible

2:14.2

it sounds okay but keep in, this isn't the best episode
