Today we are in Austin, Texas at the St Paul Center's Priest Conference, and I am delighted and privileged to be hosting here as our guest

Father Jeffrey Kirby. He's done many things for us over the years. We've been friends for

over a decade and so I want to welcome you. Father Jeffer, great to be with you.

So much of what you do as a parish priest and also as an author and speaker have to do with discipleship. So if you don't mind I want to bore straight

down into this core concern which sometimes seems to ordinary Catholics to be Protestant discipleship I mean that is what we

read about in the Gospels how does that actually fit into ordinary Catholic

life yes I have to tell you actually when I fit into ordinary Catholic life.

Yes, I have to tell you actually when I speak and speak about discipleship or the ongoing

conversion or personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

So oftentimes I'll have prisoners who will say, well, you know, that sounds Protestant.

And now I've come back and kind of challenge them a little bit with that.

And I say, you know, isn't it a sad situation when your priest talks about discipleship,

relationship with Jesus Christ, talks about Jesus Christ,

and your immediate response is,

you sound like a Protestant,

Father, are you a convert? it just shows we have work to do like this
