As a young feminist, I said some ridiculous things. You must have come across some right plonkers in your time.

Hello, I'm Julie Bindle and this is Action Men, a series in which I have interesting conversations

with men that actually get up off their backsides and contribute to the work that feminists are doing

to prevent rape, domestic violence and challenge pornography and the sex trade.

Today I'm speaking with Michael Conroy.

Michael set up men at work.

Men at work is an organisation that looks at

macho culture, that looks at the way that boys are encouraged to fight,

to compete, and to be abusive towards girls and in later

life women.

Michael, many people think I'm a man-hater.

Do you think I'm a man-hater?

If you are, I'm not a very good one.

This is what's said about feminists, but I think me in particular because I talk about

male violence. Yeah. Well, male violence think me in particular, because I talk about male violence.

Yeah. Well, male violence is one of the, well, it's probably the biggest problem in the world.

And we have to talk about it. Women have to talk about it because it's your experience.

And men have to talk about it because it's our experience as both victims and perpetrators.

Whereas overwhelmingly women are only the victims.

Not to say they can't be, but overwhelming.
