Isn't it strange that we give more time in consideration to picking shoes or purses than picking our friends and vital associations, the people who

will have a profound influence on shaping your character, your habits, and your future.

When was the last time you screened your associations, not just for their status and credentials,

but for their character, their values, and their aspirations? A question I was asked recently was, what do I look for in building my board of advisors,

those people who are in my inner circle association, those that I call my dirty dozen,

and what is a dangerous trait to avoid?

So, okay, I'll answer the last part first.

One dangerous trait to avoid is people who are arrogant.

You see, arrogance often masquerades as confidence, but it is just a facade hiding insecurity

and narrow-mindedness. Arrogance lacks humility. And without humility, there's no growth

or learning. And arrogant people are just plain,

annoying to be around. Now, don't get me wrong. All the guys on my dirty dozen group have high

ego strength and are the alphas of their tribes. But none of them are arrogant, in the least. What they

have is true confidence, which is the opposite, in fact, of arrogance. They are

100% comfortable being open, being vulnerable and loving. They are all, in fact, very, very loving

people. Now, there are three traits that I would suggest that you prioritize when picking your

key associations. Number one is character. Good character is not negotiable.

When you associate with individuals of high moral fiber, they influence you positively and reinforce your
