What constitutes the glory of Christ in the Father's eyes is that the Son is not merely majestic

and not merely meek, but all the perfections that surround majesty and all the perfections that surround meekness

are in one glorious person. And the Father looks upon that person and he loves him with infinite affection.

It's very easy to miss just how unusual it is for majesty and meekness to live together without one canceling out the other in the very same person.

This talk, based on John Piper's book, The Pleasures of God, was originally given at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Wednesday night, September 18th, 1991.

Questions 5 through 10 deal with God's pleasure in his son's majesty and meekness.

The reason I hit upon this was because I noticed that in the Gospels,

there are two places where it says,

this is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased.

I'm well pleased.

This is my loved son and I'm well pleased. So those two little phrases,

loved, well pleased. I said, aha, what was it? What is it in these two places that moves God to say that?

And the one is the Mount of Transfiguration, which is question number five. Peter calls it the majestic glory was manifested. Jesus was unveiled, as it were, the veil of his flesh was sort of pulled

back and he was allowed to be seen briefly in his heavenly glory, at least in part, and the disciples fall down, they don't

know what to say. And the Lord says, I love this one. This is my delight. In other words,

it's as though he says, now watch this. And briefly, he pulls pulls the veil the glory of Jesus shines forth

and Peter and James and John go on their face and the voice that comes to attend this revelation of

majesty and glory is this is my son this is the one I love this is the one in whom I have pleasure shut the veil what's the

message at least the message is the glory of Jesus excites the Father the worth

and excellency and majesty of the son is a delight to the father.

So that's the first point in this set of questions.
