The more the Father loves the Son, the more hope there is that if I can be in the

Son, the Father will love me.

I think some of us sometimes experience a low-grade fear that God's love for us is fragile, that it could

wear thin if we don't get things exactly right. But then you hear something like what John

Piper just said, and it shifts the whole foundation. I'm Dan Kroover. In this episode of Light and Truth, John Piper helps us

see why the father's love for the son is the most secure place for our hope to rest. This talk

based on John Piper's book, The Pleasures of God, was originally given at Bethlehem Baptist Church

on Wednesday night, September 18th, 1991.

Let's go to question number 18 and look at this tremendously important text

regarding the sonship of Christ and its relationship to our hope again.

Romans 832, one of my most favorite verses,

He who did not spare his own son but gave him up for us all,

will he not also give us all things with him how do you

take that question and make a statement out of it because rhetorical questions like this are statements

this is a statement this is not really a question.

He's not asking us to come up with a way that Christ will not give us all things or God will

not give us all things. He's saying, he who did not spare his own son, but gave him up for

us all, most certainly will give us all things with him.

That's the gist, right?

Anybody agree with that?

That a rhetorical question like that is a way of forcefully making a statement.

Now, my question with regard to that is, how does this verse teach us about the father's zeal and passion for his son?
