I'm your host, Dr. Adrian Chavez, and today we are going to be discussing the science of obesity and weight gain.

What are the societal factors that have contributed to higher levels of obesity in our population?

And then we're going to discuss this from an individual level.

So what are the individual factors that would

contribute to gaining weight over the course of a lifetime or over the course of a shorter period of time?

And the reason that I decided to discuss this topic is because I hear a lot of noise around obesity and weight gain.

So we've seen a lot of increases in obesity in our population over the last 50

years. And I see a lot of people blaming it on seed oils or chemicals in our food or food dyes or any

number of other factors. And I want to discuss what the science shows about what's really contributing to

that increase in obesity on a population level. And then on an individual level, I talk to so

many people who are carrying more body fat than they like to and they don't really understand why.

And I'm going to break down those reasons why in this podcast because it's usually some of the exact same reasons.

And oftentimes people think it's their hormones or they think it's their metabolism or they

think they're just getting older and that's causing their metabolism to slow down or whatever the

case may be. We're going to talk about what those real reasons typically are.
