There's an effort to stop state-level AI laws again.

The White House is not giving up.

It's continuing a push to preempt states from passing their own AI laws, something it tried and failed to accomplish last year.

We'll get into it on today's Marketplace Techbytes week in review.

Plus, it looks like federal regulators might actually put some rules

on prediction markets like Calci and Polymarket. Plus, Siri AI is coming to an Apple device

near you later this year, as long as you're not in Europe. But first, back to that renewed attempt

to pass federal guidelines to preempt state-level

AI laws. The Trump administration tried and failed to get a similar provision into a defense

spending bill last year, then signed an executive order that hasn't really slowed states down

much. So what's different about this newest push? We spoke with

Maria Curie, tech policy reporter at Axios, to learn more. We learned of a bipartisan package

recently, and we once again are in a new area that is partisan. And essentially what we reported earlier this

week is that the White House and Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican, are working to come up with

an entirely new package separate from the bipartisan package that we learned about just the

previous week that would essentially get at this AI state level preemption question.

It would also include the Senate version of the Kids Online Safety Act, which of course is the bill that Blackburn has been championing for years.

It would also include the No Fakes Act, which would protect artists and regular people

from their name, image, and likeness from being used without their permission. And it would also

include some age verification requirements. It's really interesting. The White House doing
