0:27.7	They need to have self-control over our passions, our appetites, especially this virtue
0:32.3	called temperance, which moderates our attraction to pleasure, especially pleasures
0:36.8	involving food, drink, and sex.
0:39.0	Why can't we just enjoy these things? God put pleasure in these things. Should we enjoy the good
0:43.6	things of this world that God created for us to experience pleasure with? Why do we need self-control?
0:50.1	What we're going to do today is take a look at this great virtue of temperance.
0:55.4	But I want to understand it with a Catholic lens.
0:57.9	Not the way the secular world may view it is something negative and repressive.
1:01.8	No, no, I want us to see it as about creating space in our soul to enjoy the highest pleasures of life.
1:08.5	So we're not weighed down and become slaves to the lower pleasures in life.
1:12.9	So it's really about making space for the greatest things that God made us for.
1:16.5	And that's we're going to take a look at in this week's podcast.
