I hate the devil. The longer I live and the more I try to serve the Lord, the more I hate him.

One of Satan's great strategies against the people of God is to get us to stop praying.

Now, we're studying this week the example of Hannah and her persistence in prayer.

She just kept praying.

The Bible says in 1st Samuel chapter 1, verse 12, it came to pass as she continued praying before the Lord

that Eli marked her mouth. Others were watching, but she wasn't really concerned about that.

She was only concerned that God was hearing. And so she kept praying. She kept praying in the face of spiritual opposition.

There was an adversary, a person that the devil used to try to oppose her, a woman by the name of Panina who mocked her and who brought it up to her again and again, trying to make her anxious and trying to provoke her. And it's interesting that this enemy keeps coming back.

As a matter of fact, listen to verse 7, as he did so year by year when she went up to the house of the Lord.

I believe the adversary here is not a she, it's a he.

So it's not just this woman, it is the devil, and the devil comes back

year by year. A friend, the devil's not going to leave you alone. He'll leave you alone for a little

while, but he's coming back, even in the great temptation of the Lord Jesus Christ. At the end of

that, the Bible says that Satan departed from him for a season. It's not a day of temptation, it's a life of temptation. That's a life of

spiritual opposition. And one of the means that the devil's going to use is he's going to try

to get you to stop praying. Samuel Chadwick, a man of great prayer, said this, the one concern

of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies,

prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but he
