But it's over 90% of all code in the commercial stack has open source dependencies,

and something like 76% of it is actually on source.

Now that's huge.

What you see is that by number of committing or contributing developers and by lines of code

contributed, the UK is number one in Europe by far.

Then you have Germany and a large way behind France, but France is the fastest growing.

So in the UK, we need more.

And it's really all Open AIs fault, because the natural thing for us to have called AI that was open was open AI.

And I'm sure with the best of intentions when they set the organisation up as a not-for-profit,

they nabbed that term and it's not trademark, so it causes huge confusion.

I'm your host, Jane Wakefield, and today I'm joined by Amanda Brock, the CEO of Open UK, the UK's industry body

for open source software and hardware. Welcome Amanda. Thanks very much for having me along, Jane.

Now let's kind of start by defining what open source is and also explaining where we find it, not only in the digital world, but in the

sort of devices that are all around us.

Yeah, we actually tend to use the term open technology at Open UK, and by that we talk about

the umbrella, software, hardware data, and within that standards and AI also.
